Ozone
Ozone is used for many applications, such as fish ponds, aqua culture, swimming pools, air purification, greenhouse crop growing, process water. Whatever use one has for ozone, always be aware of the safety measurements.

What is ozone (O3)?
Normally an oxygen molecule is composed of two oxygen atoms. Through ozonisation an extra atom is added and therefore an molecule with three oxygen atoms is formed, called ozone. This is a form of oxygen radical. This ozone molecule is highly unstable and will very quickly fall back to the original shape, oxygen (O2).

In fact ozone is nothing less than oxygen that, due to electrical high voltage, has an extra oxygen added thus forming ozone.

What does ozone do?
The moment an ozone molecule comes into contact with something that can very easily oxidize, the extra oxygen molecule will immediately transfer to this substance and the molecule will bind as soon as possible. This oxidation (burning through radical oxygen) can occur with all kinds of substances, visible or invisible, such as viruses, fungi, bacteria and all kinds of micro-organisms. As the extra oxygen atom will bind with the other substance, there will only by pure oxygen left of the original ozone molecule. Ozone is a strong disinfectant, the applications of ozone can be found in drinking and waste water purification, to disinfect in the food industry, air treatment in large supermarkets or shopping centers, in hospitals, swimming pools and ponds.

How is ozone made.
To produce ozone for our pond we need an ozone generator. This can produce ozone in two different ways: Through high-voltage (corona discharge) or by UV-radiation. Because of the higher return and favorable price/return rate almost always the choice is for the ozone generator, that produces ozone by using high-voltage. Through an air pump Air is blown into the inline mixer.

Surplus ozone.
The surplus air from the reactor will flow through the charcoal filter. This will remove surplus ozone before you releasing the air outside.

Pond.
Ozone can never replace a good biological filter system, but is an excellent supplement of your total filter system.

Redoxindicator.
The redox value of the pond water indicates the degree of pollution. The higher the redox value, the cleaner the pond water. The redox value actually indicates the difference between the chemical and organic pollution of the water, stated as Millivolt (Mv.)
A redox value of 800 Mv or more will sterilize the pond. In such a pond no life can exist. The most favorable redox value for our ponds is between 300 and 400 Mv. A good redox indicater can be set on the desired value and will control the generator or even shut it down.

In order to use ozone safely an integrated redox indicator is crucial.
